Another fabulous workshop enjoyed by all who attended. Wendy was so generous with her knowledge and materials. She not only gave us comprehensive notes, but also a sketchbook for us to use in the workshop, as well as other tools for us to experiment with and lots of items from which we could choose as our sketching subjects. Wendy also warned us that we would be trying quite a few different things, during this workshop, so we would not necessarily be finishing each drawing completely.
After a brief description of what we should do, we started by choosing a leaf, which we traced around using either pencil, biro or fine liner, then coloured, with coloured pencil, to match the real thing.
It was then time to enjoy our fabulous morning tea, provided by Catherine and Narelle, which was definitely up to its usual standard of yum!
Our next exercise was to draw a feather. Once again, we selected our feather or feathers and began to plot the shape around the actual feather by using a pencil using dots to designate the shape. We then proceeded to colour our feathers with our coloured pencils. This was a much slower process because of the delicacy of the feathers. After lunch it was seeds and pods, followed by shells, first bivalves, then gastropods. For scallop shells (bivalves) we used wax crayons, in various colours, to do a rubbing of the back of the shells. We could also use watercolours for other bivalves or coloured pencil, whichever worked best. We could also label our drawings to describe the different aspects of each item.
We covered a lot of territory and learnt new techniques, including the clever use for an old sock, giving us another avenue for our creative juices. And it was so much fun! Everyone produced great drawings and left the workshop with smiles on their faces.
